How to Install Wonderdraft Assets

Wonderdraft by Megasploot is a great map-making software for large-scale, highly detailed world maps. It takes a bit more effort to learn than other programs such as Inkarnate, but it is extremely versatile in its capabilities. Because it comes with a limited selection of assets, knowing how to import and organize custom assets is essential to use Wonderdraft to its full potential. This program is available with a one-time purchase from wonderdraft.net.

Importing Wonderdraft Assets - Step-by-Step

Note: Each of my asset packs is already formatted for Wonderdraft; this guide will focus on importing these and other Wonderdraft-formatted assets.

  1. Locate and open the 'assets' folder in your PC's files.
    • You may need to run Wonderdraft at least once for this folder to generate.
    • Windows users: This folder can be found at:
      • (C:)>Users>[username]>AppData>Roaming>Wonderdraft
      • You may need to unhide hidden folders to find 'AppData'.
        • In any folder, click "View" then check "Hidden Items".

    • Mac users: This folder can be found at:
      • /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Wonderdraft/
    • Linux users: This folder can be found at:
      • /home/username/.local/share/Wonderdraft

  2. Unzip your downloaded Wonderdraft assets.
    • The unzipped folder should be named "SGD - [asset pack name]".

  3. Move the unzipped folder into the 'assets' folder that you found in Step 1.

  4. Enable your new assets in Wonderdraft.
    • Open Wonderdraft and select "New" from the top menu.
    • In the pop-up window, select the "Assets" tab.
    • In the "Custom" section, find your new assets and check the box.

    • Return to the "Settings" tab, choose your preferred map settings, then click "OK".
    • Once your map has loaded, "Save" your map. You do not need to keep this map. This step ensures your assets are enabled by default when you start a new map.
    • To enable your assets in an existing map, select "Assets" from the top menu to bring up your installed asset packs.

There is no limit to the number of assets you can install or enable in Wonderdraft. However, I recommend enabling assets only if you need them for the specific map you're working on. This keeps load times down, lagging to a minimum, and significantly lowers the risk of Wonderdraft crashing.
